Meet the creator, founder, and inspiration of Mr. D's Music Club, Stephen Duffy. Mr. D tapped into the love and inspiration of music at an early age (7 and certain stardom would hit at 9). Only as an adult and well into parenthood did he fully realize the value of music in a child's life. Not only is Mr. D an accomplished singer/songwriter, but he is also, more importantly, a valued educator and mentor. He inspires the students he teaches to create an eclectic playlist in life that isn't always obvious. As a mentor to young Teaching Artists, he always maintains the most important mantra: Make.It.FUN!

Allison Moore

ART TEACHING ARTIST

Allison Moore is an artist and educator originally from the South Bay Area. She particularly enjoys working in cartooning, painting, and screenprinting and has had her visual work published in the Boston Compass Newspaper, New Absurdist Magazine, Last Place Magazine, and on her Mom and Dad’s fridge.

Allison has spent most of her career working with young people in creative and educational spaces including the Hive, a free makerspace at the Cambridge Public Library, and Boys and Girls Club. She is excited to bring her passion for hands-on creative education to Mr. D’s.

In addition to her experience in the arts, Allison also brings an engineering background to set design at Mr. D’s and holds a BA in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University. She hopes her combined background in arts and engineering will support campers in bringing their wacky-est and awesome-est ideas to life this summer!

Allison’s goal as an art teacher is to help kids feel confident making mistakes and learning from challenges. She hopes kids leave Mr. D’s feeling like they are “good” at art not because they got everything right the first time, but because they tried again when things felt hard.

Hailey Magsig

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Hailey has supported Mr. D's Music Club from behind the scenes since its inception in 2011. However, during the pandemic, Hailey took on a leadership role to help the business through Covid and the various pivots the company had to make. Her background in the child activity industry, tech, and operations helped stabilize Mr. D's Music Club during this challenging time. Today, she continues to run the business side of things and is excited to guide the program, staff, and future of Mr. D's Music Club into the next phase and beyond.​​​

Kat Koenemann

DANCE TEACHING ARTIST

Kat Koenemann (she/they) is a dance instructor based in Oakland. She currently teaches at Hipline, where she also trains instructors and staff on how to steward an empowering movement space for bodies of all shapes & sizes. From an early age, Kat began competing nationally in jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop, and lyrical dance, attending summer intensives at Broadway Dance Center in New York City. In college, Kat participated in the College of Charleston Dance Program, leaning into modern dance and studying choreography. After graduating, she taught youth in schools through the Dance Moves program, while also teaching adults at Dance FX and performing with the Charleston Dance Project. Kat then served in the Peace Corps, forming an award-winning youth dance group in El Salvador. She then moved to the Bay Area and performed in the 2013 SF International Hip Hop Dancefest. She joined Bodywerk Dance Crew and helped facilitate Bodywerk Oaktown Kids. During the early pandemic, Kat launched Body Love, a virtual dance class for body-image healing, and in 2022 she began teaching at Hipline. Kat is passionate about welcoming all body types and ability levels to dance, and her teaching style focuses on accessibility, joy, expression, and creativity.

Molly Brennan

 SCRIPT WRITER

Molly continues her script-writing work at Mr. D's Music Club in The Creative Spaces. Molly has worked in all aspects of theater and film, including directing, acting, stage managing, sound, writing and more. This summer she’ll be writing a variety of wacky original plays for the kids to bring to life on stage. Sharing the joys of theater with Mr. D's Music Club is always a wonderful break from her everyday life as a student at New York University, where she studies Film and Television. She has a focus in screenwriting and just finished writing her second feature film. Molly can't wait for the kids to act out hilarious scenes together and put their own spin on her plays!
